Senior Design Engineer/Project Manager

PBA Engineering is a growing electrical engineering consulting firm with a driven and dynamic team working for a diverse portfolio of clients locally, nationally, and abroad. Our Vancouver office is expanding its engineering staff and is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to fulfill a project management/senior design/mentor role.

The selected candidate should be genuinely interested in mentoring and participating in the growth and technical development of a very strong and talented group of engineers and designers.

Our diverse workload is largely project driven and include the following technical areas:

  • Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS)
  • Security Systems
  • Substation design, power distribution, and grounding systems.
  • Lighting layouts and studies.
  • Automated processes and PLC control systems.
  • Analogue and digital CCTV systems.
  • Communications systems involving Ethernet networks, serial protocols, fibre systems, and RF point-to-point and point-to-multipoint transmission.

Project management responsibilities involve:

  • Leading and coordinating the project electrical design team.
  • Internal resource and financial tracking.
  • Create, promote, and maintain client relationships.
  • Establishing and maintaining project schedules.
  • Creation of tender documents and management of tender process.
  • Presentation of project deliverables to clients.
  • Coordination with drafting department.
  • Use of professional seal as required for project documents.

Design responsibilities incorporate:

  • Calculations and simulations.
  • Cost estimates.
  • Drawing production.
  • Detailed construction specifications.
  • Scope of work documents.
  • Construction services.
  • System commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Efficient and effective implementation of all of the above, and the desire and ability to work with engineering staff to create an environment where the complete project team incorporates such skills.

Mentor responsibilities include:

  • Enthusiastic coaching and mentoring throughout design phases of projects.
  • Perform in house technical presentation sessions.
  • Serve as knowledge resource and offer guidance to engineers and other staff.
  • Assist with performance review process to ensure constructive feedback and development.

In addition to experience with the above responsibilities, the qualifications for the position include:

  • At least 10 years of experience in an electrical consulting environment.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of engineering topics, especially those technical areas noted above.
  • A genuine interest in providing mentoring for developing engineers.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Sense of humour and proven ability to appreciate the fun involved in engineering, both during work hours and after.
  • Proven project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Able to effectively deal with a high level of responsibility and demanding work schedule.
  • Education minimum: degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university. Post-graduate degree preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code or National Electrical Code.
  • P. Eng. registration with APEGBC or eligibility for registration.
  • Strong computer skills including complete familiarity with MS Office suite.

  • Six figure salary, directly proportional to demonstrated competency.
